You may have expanded the first part but nothing you pointed out actually refutes the notion that “advances for minority groups have almost always come as a result of political and social struggles in which African-Americans have generally taken the lead, not as a working-out of the immanent logic of the Constitution.”

And no one is trying to "erase" Frederick Douglas. The 1619 project attempts to look at history through a different lens and doesn't have to include people that were not integral within this context. This doesn't diminish his stature or accomplishments in any way. We need to be more concerned about all the other Black and Brown people who are going to be erased from grade school history books because White children supposedly can't handle the truth.
