This "significant" abolition movement hardly represents Western civilization at the time. If it did, chattel slavery would have never expanded the way it did. Profit mattered more than human subjugation. And further, even if the majority of White Americans thought slavery was wrong by the time of the Civil War, they still didn't consider us to be human, or at least not worthy of the rights the founding fathers promoted.
Western civilization created and profited greatly from chattel slavery.
Western civilization created and profited greatly from apartheid and Jim Crow.
Western civilization continued the practice of slavery through unjust implementation of the law and mass incarceration.
Western civilization continues to denigrate Black and Brown people, even at the general expense of White people, because of racism and greed that is woven into our capitalistic system that was primarily designed to benefit White men.
If Lincoln could have preserved the union without abolishing slavery, we very well could still have it in the United States in 21st century.
Are all of these true statements?
