They need to space it out. I feel like the M3 and M4 came quickly. 2025 should be about bringing all the Macs to M4. There's no reason other than marketing to push out the M5 before spring of 2026. Spend more time refining it and eking out more processing power. I get that Apple has shareholders to appease but it would be nice if 2025 was a Snow Leopard year. That means no new iPhone either. I realize that the consumer world doesn't move like that, but it would be nice if Apple led the way for the industry, if only to hush all the haters constantly complaining about lack of "innovation".
