He is taking ownership for his life. As you quoted, it’s a lesson he learned in grade school.

Too often stories like this are taken as someone blaming others for their failings in life. He’s simply illustrating something a lot of can relate to. Something that bothers a lot of us and maybe open some people eyes to how their words are affecting others. The fact that you just see being called an Oreo as “being compared to a cookie” shows you don’t get it, or just don’t care to understand.

He’s not making any excuses for anything. He’s simply saying, “hey, you sound like a jackass when you say you don’t see color.” See me for who I am and if you really want to convey that you judge people for their character, then simply say that.
