Being part of the majority certainly is a factor. But the history of racism is a much bigger factor, especially in America. The laws of this country were designed specifically for the benefit of White men. And much as things have changed, it's still part of the core of America and makes it very easy for people to simply ignore the extra hurdles that some people have to jump over because it has never affected them and they can't even imagine a world where it would. Case in point - think about a White person traveling to various countries versus a Black or Brown person. And I can't help but think about the article I just saw about the popularity of skin whitening products in Africa and Asia.
